Patented infrared emitter set-up

Infrasolid’s infrared radiation sources are pulsable thermal emitters with a near black-body emittance. Based on a patented nanotechnology and a patented emitter set-up made of a high-melting metal, the free-standing monolithic radiating element with the nanostructured emitter surface offer numerous advantages in many applications.

The nanostructured emission layer consists of metal nanorods made by an unique PVD process. It provides a broadband and highly efficient emission of infrared radiation. The coating can be applied on both emitter sides in order to increase the optical output power by using the backside emitted radiation with the aid of a gold-plated reflector. By adapting the nanostructured surface, the emission spectrum can be influenced and adapted to specific applications. In this way, energy consumption can be reduced by not generating radiation in the unneeded wavelength ranges. The unique and patented manufacturing process allows the flexible production of different emitter area geometries and, therefore, an easy adaptation to customer-specific applications. The infrared radiators are available in an open version and in a hermetic housing.

INFRASOLID® hermetic housing technology

Unique packaging process

Infrasolid has developed a unique packaging process for its infrared radiation sources in TO-8 housing. Different soldered filter windows allow hermetically sealed TO-8 housings with a broadband optical output and its use in harsh industrial environments.

Infrasolid's hermetic housing technology enables the soldering of CaF2, BaF2 and sapphire windows to the TO-8 housing of our infrared radiation sources and thus causing it to be impenetrable for gases. The hermetic package do not show any permeation of water vapor or gases in contrast to glued windows. It opens up new fields of application especially in harsh industrial environments – explosion-endangered applications, corrosive gas mixtures, high temperature, high partial gas pressure and high humidity. In addition, the hermetic sealing allows the use of special inert protective (noble) gases inside the package. Thus, energy consumption can be decreased and efficiency is increased. Applying Infrasolid's hermetic housing technology allows the use of long-term stable and highly efficient infrared radiation sources for gas sensors and gas monitoring, material analysis as well as infrared spectroscopy.

HISsmd series

HISsmd series emitters are small, powerful infrared radiation sources that meet the demands for reliable miniaturized gas sensors and offer a wide range of new application scenarios. The low energy consumption, the high efficiency and the small size allow the use in portable, battery-powered, and mobile applications. These innovative infrared light sources are used, for instance, in respiratory gas analysis, e.g. for the detection of CO₂ and breath alcohol, and in Smart Home and Smartphone applications. The pioneering SMD package enables a fully automated production in high-volume markets.

HISbasic series emitters have an integrated gold plated reflector that directs the radiation emitted from the rear to the front in order to achieve maximum efficiency. All our emitters offer minimum drift at constant resistance (Ohm). Infrasolids IR emitters are characterized by a very low temperature coefficient of electrical resistance. Therefore the hot resistance and the cold resistance are almost identical which eases the electrical control of the IR sources.

Hermetic gas filter cell for optical measurement of gases

Gas Filter Cell
for best optical measurement of gases

Hermetic gas filter cells are gas-filled cylinders and are used to block out specific frequency bands of interfering gases in optical gas analysis.

Additionally, the cells can be filled with reference gases of certain gas concentrations to be used for calibration of gas analysis systems, e.g. adjusting laser wavelengths to specific gas absorption bands. For a very high long-term stability our gas filter cells are hermetically sealed. The high transmissivity is achieved by soldered CaF₂ windows.
